With a total of 43 ideas, Chemnitz’s citizens participated in the third round of calls for micro-projects for the application process for the title of European Capital of Culture 2025.
Funding of a maximum of EUR 2500 has now been approved for 14 projects. A total of just under 27,000 euros will go to the applicants.
The jury appointed by the Programme Council praised above all the diversity of ideas and the broad commitment to the city society. There is still a lot of potential in non-beneficial ideas, which is why this time too, consultations will be offered to either combine projects or further develop good approaches.
In the future, creative ideas from the urban population will continue to be supported with up to 2500 euros. The next application deadline for micro-projects is 31 March 2019.
And these are our current micro-projects:
2025C
The radio amateurs in Chemnitz establish many national and international radio connections every day – and each radio contact is followed by a designed confirmation card, comparable to a postcard. In this way, Chemnitz and the application for the Capital of Culture 2025 will be sent all over the world in the future – especially since the radio amateurs of Chemnitz will also apply for an amateur radio special call sign at the Federal Network Agency: DM2025C (in radio language: DM is Germany and C is the abbreviation for Chemnitz, with the number 2025 in between).
<The Living Stories Club
Mehr Miteinander in Sachen e.V. is planning a Living Library. On selected Saturdays of the year, "living books" can be borrowed from the municipal library – in addition to normal media. These "living books" are real people who have to fight against stereotypes, exclusion and prejudice on the part of society because they are or were, for example, foreigners, homosexuals, disabled, alcoholics, junkie, Jews, refugees, homeless, unemployed, HIV-positive, autistic, rape victims, violent criminals, victims of violence, severely overweight, blind or anorexic. Depending on their interests, visitors can choose one of the topics and talk to a person from the respective group for a maximum of 30 minutes free of charge in private – about anything that interests them. For example, how does a foreigner experience exclusion in Germany? What does it actually mean to believe in another God? How was your coming out? What makes our storytellers happy? What are they afraid of? Exclusion is caused above all by ignorance! – and this project fights against prejudice.
<Lived fan culture – flag painting day
The flag painting day of the AWO fan project is basically open to all interested club fans, but especially to children and young people who are enthusiastic about football and sports. The aim is to use them to create double holders and waving flags with desired motifs around the theme of the cityscape and football/Chemnitzer FC, guided and supported by creative minds in the fan scene. The presentation of the finished flags and double holders in the course of the following home games of Chemnitzer FC will strengthen the motivation, the bond to the city and the pride of the children and young people. It is their wish that they continue to work creatively and deal with the topic of fan culture afterwards.
<Platform: Business makes culture
The event series "Chemnitzer Monitoring – Views of a City" is a successful platform for entrepreneurs from the southwest Saxon region and provides the framework for the foundation of the network "Business makes Culture". This network is intended to give entrepreneurs and employees with a migration background the opportunity to report together on their "Chemnitz (life) culture" and to describe challenges in short presentations – reporting on social media and the own platform is ultimately intended to promote dialogue beyond the event.
<Beauty on Tour in Chemnitz
This project took place within the framework of the festival "Aufstand der Geschichten". A temporary beauty salon was created on the Sonnenberg as a space for conviviality, intimacy and transformation. Because in beauty salons we discuss what moves young and old and create new images of ourselves and the world as we want it to be. In this respect, protected spaces are created in which people's real cosmopolitanism and curiosity can be shown. With this approach, the migratory movements that have been causing heated emotions in Europe for a few years now can be carefully reassessed on the spot and different voices can be given a stage. The experts of the project work professionally and welcome the guests with make-up, head massage or henna painting as self-determined hosts. In the cosmopolitan studio for beautiful things, people of different origins find the space to exchange ideas about everything that is burning under their nails. It's all about recognizing the person behind common prejudices.
The mobile bicycle cinema for Chemnitz
With the mobile bicycle cinema, the project team invites people to rediscover old rooms in Chemnitz and give them a new cultural meaning. In short, it works like this: Once the mobile bicycle cinema has been set up, the project will research various potential rooms and areas for film screenings, and in the summer of 2019, the first screenings will take place. Cinema visitors will generate the electricity required for the screening themselves by “riding” several stationary bicycles.
Cultural offers at the Knappteich (Bürgergarten) and on the Sonnenberg (Zietenstr.): “Horror” and “world cuisine with readings“.
The Association for the Promotion of Solidarity, Democracy and Education (SDB e.V.) organises two frightening evenings for young people and three cooking evenings with readings in the “dark” season, in order to win residents for common ideas and projects and to promote exchange in conviviality.
days of departure – throbbing: Film report bismuth area Schlema
The “Pochen” project has just come to a successful end, but the reappraisal of the history of bismuth is far from complete. The senior film club produced a 20-minute documentary on uranium mining in the region around Bad Schlema. Desert dump landscapes, interviews with contemporary witnesses and renaturation work: The film shows the far-reaching effects of bismuth.

The open print workshop gives interested parties an insight into the art of printmaking. Over a period of two weeks, five artists will show the range of historical and craft art printing techniques. The Sonnenberg and city life in Chemnitz are the main focus of the presentations. The offer is aimed at Chemnitz schools, youth and cultural associations, as well as all curious people.
<Culture-City-Europe
In the series of events, which will comprise at least three evenings, citizens and experts will think through the ways in which people meet and interact in the city. Chemnitz residents examine existing concepts of citizen participation, discuss advantages and disadvantages and brainstorm about new possibilities.
<Culinary and international
Everyone has to eat. But with whom – that makes the difference. Cooking and eating together promotes informal exchange, encourages lively conversation and integrates people who, for example, have a different background or feel lonely. On several evenings, people are brought to the table who would otherwise not meet each other and thus have the chance to get rid of prejudices and fears.
Glamnitz>/u>
Glamour is something that probably few people would associate with the city at first sight. The event series develops utopias of what Chemnitz still is and what it might look like in the future. On three evenings, “Glamnitz_Rock’n’Roll”, “Glamnitz_Drugs”, and “Glamnitz_Sex”, citizens, actors, and actresses take a theatrical walk through the city.
<"On the river.
The initiative RAUM AM RUSS brings citizens, planners and decision-makers together to jointly design the space along the river Chemnitz. From the project PANTA RHEI – alles im Fluss?, which was supported as a micro-project in the last period, further discussion rounds have emerged, which invite to make the space around the Chemnitz accessible and experienceable.
<Five minutes" – live music & improv dance
A musician, two dancers, a camera and Chemnitz: only with the art of improvisation the project wants to improve the everyday life of the citizens. The aim is for the citizens of the city to perceive the place where they live from a different perspective and learn to appreciate it. Improvised and spontaneous performances take place all over the city.
