Thanks to the support of the Klub 2025, ten projects can realize their ideas in Chemnitz this year

Communities create places and places create community – that was the idea behind “Take a seat”. Chemnitz residents had suggested 13 places to fill unused areas or squares in the city with their own ideas. Around 3000 Chemnitz residents have now voted on these projects and chosen their favourite ones. These projects are to be implemented this year.
Thanks to the support of the Klub 2025, an association of various companies in the city that support the application for the European Capital of Culture 2025, the city will be able to sponsor not only five but ten projects this year.

Each project receives a budget of 2025 euros. A sum that makes individual initiative both possible and necessary. Because the aim is a joint project that unites many talents – as an offer for encounters and enjoyment, as an expression of the creativity and the doer mentality of the city, as a sign of: #2025TogetherOutdoor

The prizes will be officially handed over to the ten projects on Friday, August 16th in the town hall. Due to the great success of the campaign, Lord Mayor Barbara Ludwig announced that she will continue it next year. “I am pleased that the idea of “Take a seat” was so well received and I hope that many Chemnitz residents will also participate in the coming year in making their own city more beautiful and liveable through small projects in many places. I thank all participants who had the courage to take part in this first round.”

These projects have won:

Viewpoint “Am Schösserholz”

The Heimatverein Adelsberg e.V. would like to build a lookout and resting point at the edge of the forest not far from the terminal “Schösserholz” (CVAG line 43, on weekends line 33!).

Made of wood, citizens of Adelsberg are to tackle the task together, because it’s worth the effort: from there you have a great view over the whole city of Chemnitz.

coloured stairs

Josephine Klinkhardt would like her home town to become more colourful – in people’s minds and in the cityscape.

So she imagines colourful staircases at different places in the city. For example between Hartmannplatz and Hohe Straße, between the Technical Town Hall and einsenergie, between Schlossteich- and Inselstraße

stage at Gerhart-Hauptmann-Platz

The central park on the Kaßberg is not only ideal for tobogganing due to its hillside location…

… but could be used as a natural amphitheatre for a variety of cultural programmes with a small stage facing north-west, say Katrin Jeschkowski and Marc Ebert, and imagine concerts, theatre, readings, science or poetry slams on the stage platform.

The Carlowitzpark adventure play area

The “Rabennest” day care centre in Rabenstein suggests creating an adventure play area in the Carlowitzpark that combines nature and adventure educational play and movement elements.

Because near-natural adventure playgrounds fulfil in many ways the criteria necessary for a playground as a central contact point in the Rabensteiner Carlowitzpark due to its multifunctional concept and the successful combination of movement, sensory experience, education and encounter. Combined with seating and picnic facilities, it would once again be a place to linger and take a seat – for children, young families, kindergarten groups, school classes, all Rabensteiner and visitors.

Areas at Karl-Marx-Kopf

Ulrike Voigt wants to turn the most famous place in Chemnitz into a meeting place for families.

With painted outdoor play areas to the left of the Karl-Marx-Kopf for huppekästchen, Mensch- Ärgere-Dich-Nicht or chess, with a memory game “Chemnitz 2025”, for which rotating dice in a frame show different pictures of Chemnitz, with a container for street painting chalk, with colourful comfortable seats on the meadow to the right of Karl-Marx-Kopf and to the left on the roundabout and with a line for “Pflück dir eine Chemnitzer Kurzgeschichte” or “Pflück dir ein Chemnitzer Ausmalbild”.

Green area at the Chemnitz

The BUND regional group Chemnitz would like to create even more quality of stay at the Further Straße/corner Emilienstraße.

This idyllic place on the Chemnitz river already invites you to relax with a pavilion, barbecue areas, benches, an art object and a great stock of trees. But how much nicer would it be if a picking garden that can be used, enjoyed and cared for by everyone, with native herbs and berry bushes such as blackberries, raspberries, currants and gooseberries, were added? In addition, parts of the lawn could be used for butterfly meadow seeds and strip mowing twice a year to reveal native butterflies and bees. Children could play there, strollers could stroll or dogs could romp around. And, of course, there would also be plenty of other places to lie down.

playground Reichenhain

On the premises of VfL Chemnitz at the Jägerschlößchenstraße, the sports and local history club have built a beautiful sports playground in the last weeks, which is missing only one detail…

… …a covered seating area. Because where children from the district romp around and young families meet, there is of course also a place to rest.

Power box gallery at Brühl

In addition to the large murals that are being created all over the neighbourhood, the Brühlgemeinschaft would now like to include the electrical boxes in the growing open-air gallery.

Under the direction of graffiti artist Friedrich Benzler, also known as Friedrich Ben-Ten Benzler, who has already embellished some of the city’s power boxes, a participatory action is planned which will create new eye-catchers on the Brühl during an event weekend.

Redesign of the former summer swimming pool Erfenschlag

Together with the Erfenschlag citizens’ association, the existing summer swimming pool is to be redesigned and turned into a nature-oriented meeting place in the district.

One project out of it: the play point along the stream with a small playhouse, water treading pool, barefoot path and pavilion.

Zietenpark

The SDB e.V. has just taken over the sponsorship for the small gap between the buildings at the corner of Zietenstrasse and Jakobstrasse.

With the help of the residents, the association would like to turn the area into a new meeting place and event location in the quarter: with new colourful plants, a small border and seating. A WLAN hotspot is also being considered.
