With the CULTURSOMMER 2021, the colourful cultural life in Chemnitz can finally take off again! The official launch of the project took place on Monday. An exciting programme with concerts in the fountain at the Stadthalle, inspiring readings at the Güterbahnhof Altendorf, jam skating in Konkordiapark, a live light performance at the Karl Marx Monument and much more, invites you to come together. This not only sounds like a lot of good spirits and fun, but also shows again how much creative talent we have in our city.

The aim of the CULTURSOMMER 2021 is to enjoy culture for free and outdoors whilst supporting the regional cultural workers and event technicians. After the challenging period of lockdown, the city will once again become a cultural venue and stage. The festival will take place in the city centre, neighbourhoods and suburbs.

The festival will run from 2 July to 9 October 2021, with a children’s and youth programme and an evening programme to ensure the involvement of young and old along with many opportunities for independent artists from the city and the region.

A total of 600,000 euros is available for culture this summer; the Federal Cultural Foundation of Germany is funding the Chemnitz project with 480,000 euros as part of the Cultural Summer programme, plus 120,000 euros of the city’s own funds.

A programme council consisting of members of the cultural advisory board of the city of Chemnitz and the independent cultural sector decided which artists would take part in the programme. From over 150 expressions of interest, 40 projects were selected. The programme of the CULTURSOMMER 2021 is organised by the city’s Kulturbetrieb and the C³ Chemnitzer Veranstaltungszentren GmbH.
