Right at the start of the week we had the Prime Minister of Saxony as our guest. During his visit to our office, Michael Kretschmer personally congratulated our team once again on reaching the second round of applications and thanked them for their commitment. “You have achieved something really great together,” he emphasized. Not only for Chemnitz but also for the whole of Saxony the application is an enrichment. At the same time, he assured that the newly elected state government would also keep its promises: “In the next days and weeks, we want to make 600,000 euros available from the state budget for this application. You decide for which projects.” And it was precisely those projects and plans that were the subject of the joint discussion with Mayor Barbara Ludwig and Project Manager Ferenc Csák. The Prime Minister informed himself about the status of the application and the content of the project. What position does Chemnitz want to take in the process of European unification and how does the city want to use culture to negotiate the pressing issues of our time? The programme development is underway and the state government will support Chemnitz to the best of its ability. And when the title comes “what we are starting from”, as Kretschmer added, the Free State will then contribute 20 million euros.
