For free and outside – this is the motto of the Fête de la Musique in Chemnitz this year again. But what is new: Not only Chemnitz celebrates on 21 June 2020, the cultural region also celebrates the longest day of the year. For Chemnitz has taken the application for the European Capital of Culture 2025 as an opportunity to link the neighbouring cities culturally as well. So this time the beginning of summer is to be heralded not only by over 540 cities around the world, but also together with Frankenberg, Mittweida, Zwönitz, Hainichen, Stollberg, Pockau-Lengefeld and Zschopau.

Together with the Spinnerei e.V., which organizes the Fête de la Musique in Chemnitz, the Chemnitz2025 team pushed the idea of a joint Fête last year – and now the time has come.

“In Chemnitz, as always, there will be different stages and small street musician squares around the Red Tower and the market square with musicians from different genres and cultural circles. But of course we are also very curious to see how the Fête de la Musique will be received in the region. In Zschopau, Pockau-Lengefeld and Zwönitz it will not be the first time that the city becomes a stage on 21 June, but in Frankenberg, Mittweida, Stollberg and Hainichen it will. This will definitely be a great day for all of us,” says Benjamin Gruner from Spinnerei e.V.

And Dieter Greysinger, Mayor of Hainichen, emphasises: “The award of the title ‘European Capital of Culture 2025’ would be such a great thing for the Chemnitz region that I did not hesitate for a moment to take part in one of the last major joint actions before the final decision on the award of the title, especially to underline our support for the application. I am sure all other cities in our region feel the same way.”

Everyone is invited to join in the celebrations or to make music themselves throughout the region. Anyone who would like to be part of the program can register now on the website fete-chemnitz.de.
