On 29 September, Mayor Barbara Ludwig and Project Manager Ferenc Csák presented extracts from our application book for the title of European Capital of Culture 2025 to hundreds of interested Chemnitz residents. Afterwards they talked to the visitors about the contents of the application.

It is now almost exactly three years since we first thought aloud about Chemnitz’s application to become European Capital of Culture 2025 and the idea immediately found many supporters.
So we set out on our way – with many discussions, even controversies, with a broad chest and some doubts, with the first small projects, with citizen participation formats, with an intensive stocktaking and all kinds of different wishes.

This process alone has already paid off, because it has developed a vision for Chemnitz with its own cultural self-image. Over the past weeks and months, this great idea of Chemnitz2025 has been put into a letter of application, which we have submitted to the Cultural Foundation of the German States as the organizer of the national selection process for the German Capital of Culture 2025 by 30 September 2019.
