Gallery “Chemnitz2025″ on Citylight posters

Gallery “Chemnitz2025″ on Citylight posters

Do you remember? Less than two months ago, walking through the city became the new leisure activity. What else could we have done? The restaurants, the cultural institutions, the gyms – everything was closed. So what to do with our urge to move and all the leisure time we had? This was also considered by the Chemnitz application team for the European Capital of Culture 2025. The idea: we bring art into the city – on citylight posters. That way, the walks could become open-air gallery tours and, what’s more, it’s time to make the artistic potential of Chemnitz and the region more visible anyway.

In the end, 182 artists answered the call to submit artworks for this project. As many as nobody expected. And so it was not easy for the jury of Diana Kopka (curator of the Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz), Matthias Zwarg (cultural journalist of the Freie Presse), Frank Weinhold (organizer of the art festival Begehungen), Kati Halama (designer), Simone Becht and Jenny Zichner from Team Chemnitz2025 to choose the 51 works, which have been on display in the open air gallery since Tuesday.

In addition, the jury also chose three prize winners: First place went to Ingolf Höhl for his work “Sisyphos, second place went to Maria Tomasa Llera Pérez with the motif “Zwickauer Straße 09112” and third place was taken Steffen Jacob with the winking contribution “Metronome”.

And although urban life already feels much more normal again, and familiar leisure activities are possible again, the “Chemnitz2025 Galerie” now wants to whet the appetite to continue exploring the city on foot and to take the opportunity to vote for it: Which artwork do you like best? You can either scan the >strong> QR-Code directly on the posters or take your time to look at all the works here before you decide. Finally, the most popular motif should receive a audience award of 1500 Euro. <You can vote until 6 July, as long as the exhibition is on display on the Citylight poster panels. </Strong.

We have also already started to put together gallery tours: You can find the routes here along
