When the title was won, the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025 GmbH was founded as a 100 percent subsidiary of the City of Chemnitz and commissioned to develop the programme for the European Capital of Culture in Chemnitz and the surrounding cultural region.

Under the motto “C the Unseen”, the GmbH focuses on activities in socio-culture, art, corporate culture, building culture, food and nutrition culture, environment, sustainability, children’s, youth and senior citizens’ activities, as well as numerous other social and cultural areas. To this end, it brings together regional and supra-regional, as well as international partners. The programme and production department, management, communication, marketing, human resources, administration, cross-sectional areas and numerous project groups are structurally anchored in the GmbH.

Departments and divisions of the limited liability company will continue to develop all activities from the Bid Book II with the management/programme and the commercial management and realise the Capital of Culture programme in 2025 including the preparation and follow-up.

The project company will create sustainable structures and communication spaces for citizen participation, which will send positive impulses far beyond 2025. The GmbH will tap budget-supplementing sources of funding through the acquisition and development of partnerships. It also strategically approaches the creation of digital offerings. These offerings support the programme activities and are also intended to complement them as needed. The GmbH is currently being established and is aligning its activities with the programme development steps outlined in Bid Book II.
