Chemnitz’s application to become European Capital of Culture 2025 has also inspired the Chemnitz school model. An art and culture project week took place from 8 to 12 April 2019, during which the students explored their city and their living environment in a variety of ways: painting and theatre, radio art and wood design, graffiti and rap, writing and stamp art, dance and band project, pantomime and drum course, new media and clowning. Of course, we were happy to support such a huge, inspiring and culturally educational project week, especially since the results reveal a lot about how the children and young people look at Chemnitz, how they want to express themselves artistically and how they want to participate. And above all, how they also leave their mark on the city – like the graffiti workshop that staged a garage yard on Liddy-Ebersberger-Straße.
