SUMMARY:Interventionen zur Passion: Michael Morgner
DESCRIPTION:05 March-19 April 2025:Monday - Saturday 11 am - 4 pmSunday/ch
 urch holidays 11:30 am - 4 pm↗ Website\nMichael Morgner was born in 1942
in Chemnitz. He studied at the Academy of Graphic Arts and Book Arts in L
eipzig from 1961 to 1966. As a co-founder of the artist group 'Clara Mosch
' (1977–1982)\, he advocated for artistic freedom in the GDR. His works\
, often large-scale and created in mixed media on paper\, address existent
ial questions such as war\, loss\, and personal freedom. In the St. Marien
Cathedral in Freiberg\, the altar will be covered with the third Lenten c
loth under the theme Ecce Homo.\nThe Latin expression 'Ecce Homo' means 'B
ehold the Man' – the exclamation in the Gospel of John could be the life
motto for the art of Michael Morgner. The bent\, tormented\, seeking prot
 ection\, the upright\, proud\, self-confident\, and the rising\, transcend
ing person – for these figures\, the artist born in 1942 in Chemnitz has
found striking\, abstracted forms that appear in many of his works. These
forms also make up the basic pattern of the Lenten cloth\, which will cov
er the altar of the Freiberg Cathedral St. Marien during the Passion perio
 d of 2025.
