SUMMARY:Sound workshop: DIY electronics to build yourself
DESCRIPTION:Children and the young at heart are encouraged to build their
own electronic musical instruments. They will build\, solder and create so
unds. At the end of the workshop\, these will be transferred together into
a sound installation\, exhibited and the self-built instruments will be d
emonstrated.\nElectronics can seem technical and complicated at first. Thr
ough simple instructions and concrete\, playful results\, the children are
introduced to the world of DIY electronic music. Contact microphones are
built\, light is converted into sound and every surface is made to vibrate
. It will also be shown that some components from old toys or broken devic
es can be reused to produce creative new ideas or conserve resources.\nThe
workshop is an open workshop space. Participants are offered different pr
ojects each day. They can take part in all three days or join in during th
e workshop - depending on how intensively they want to work on their proje
cts. Here are the aspects that will be tackled together in the workshop:\n
 - First basic rules of safety with electronics\n- Understanding electronic
circuits (or not) and building them\n- Giving instruments a shape\n- Ampl
ifying sounds and making Augustusburg resonate\n\nThe workshop will be led
by Laure Boer. The Berlin-based musician and sound artist is inspired by
electronic and traditional folk music. Her performances are hypnotic impro
visations around traditional instruments\, strange percussions and occasio
nally French lyrics\; a pulsating universe that is both vulnerable and bru
tal. More information about her at https://laureboer.com\nSuitable for age
 s 8 and up.
