SUMMARY:TIRRV. DIVIDED| THEATER DER WELT
DESCRIPTION:Duration: 1 hInformation: In Russian with German and English s
urtitles\n\nTwo hundred years ago\, borders were drawn between Russia\, th
e Grand Duchy of Finland\, which belonged to Russia at the time\, and Norw
ay. This resulted in the division of the Skolt Sámi Settlement Area\, inh
abited by the Sámi in the far northeast of Europe. The entire settlement
area of these indige nous peoples of northern Europe is called Sápmi. The
Sámi were forced to choose one of the new nation states where they would
remain living in. Since 1826\, the Sámi who reside on the Russian side o
f the border have lived differently from the Sámi ‘on the other side’
. The division of the Sámi into nationally defined territories and the at
tempt to assimilate them are among the historical-civilisational catastrop
hes of European colonisation and nationality policy.\n\nFrom 18 June to 5
July 2026\, Chemnitz will be in the international spotlight: Germany's la
rgest international theatre festival "Theatre of the World" is coming to C
hemnitz - directly following the Capital of Culture Year 2025. For three w
eeks\, Chemnitz will be a meeting place for artists\, audiences and theatr
e enthusiasts from all over the world. A lively celebration of the perform
ing arts will take place on stages\, in urban spaces and in unusual locati
ons\, overcoming borders and bringing together stories from all parts of t
 he world.\nNine international curators from Australia\, Canada\, Colombia\
 , Argentina\, South Africa\, Greece\, Jordan\, India\, Senegal and China a
re responsible for the festival programme. They will meet in Chemnitz in N
ovember to select around 40 outstanding productions - works that they have
previously viewed in their regions. The result is an inspiring panorama o
f current theatre forms\, languages and perspectives.
