Thanks to the first micro-project funding, the Municipal Garden at Knappteich in the Yorck area could be completed in 2018. Since 2014 the Knappteich has been under the joint sponsorship of the Association for the Promotion of Solidarity, Democracy and Education (SDB e.V.) and Greenpeace Chemnitz>/strong>. Together with the residents they maintain the pond and the public citizen garden serves for the common use of the citizens. There is, for example, an event hut, which citizens can also book for celebrations.

The community garden should be a meeting place for people and animals and give everyone the opportunity to become active themselves and help with maintenance. The main focus will be on traditional cultivation methods and sustainable, near-natural cycles. Pesticides and the use of genetic engineering are therefore prohibited.

In addition, the association wants to promote the nature and health knowledge of schoolchildren and all other interested parties on site with information boards and workshops and thus create a higher level of environmental awareness. Under the title “Edible City” fruit and berry trees and shrubs have been planted, and everyone is allowed to snack on them. Some gardens of the neighbouring allotment garden association “Zur Vogelweide” are also open to citizens as orchards.

In addition, activities and events take place at the Knappteich every year. In the third round of micro-project funding, several events were additionally supported, for example “Gruseln am Knappteich” (creepy at the Knappteich) on Halloween.
