A delegation from Chemnitz will visit the Danish city of Aarhus from 17 to 19 August, which is this year’s European Capital of Culture together with the Cypriot city of Paphos. Among others, Lord Mayor Barbara Ludwig, city councillors, cultural director Ferenc Csák, the general director of the Chemnitz Municipal Theatres, Dr. Christoph Dittrich, CWE managing director Sören Uhle, Egmont Elschner as chairman of the cultural advisory board and the president of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce, Gunnar Bertram, will travel to Denmark.

Mayor Barbara Ludwig: “The desire for such a study trip came from various actors in the Capital of Culture application. The aim is to seek exchange with other cities that have successfully mastered the application process. Tips and advice on such a project can also help Chemnitz’s application. I am therefore looking forward to the exchange and the encounters – among others with my Danish counterpart”.

The programme of the trip includes a city tour, visits to the “Godsbanen” cultural centre, where the city’s cultural office is also located, the AROS art museum and a tour of the newly built multimedia house Dokk1, which houses the city library and the Capital of Culture Secretariat. The focus of the knowledge tour is a discussion round with the head of the City of Aarhus’ Department of Culture,
Ib Christensen, which is entitled “Aarhus’ cultural strategy and the way to the Capital of Culture”. The topics discussed are cultural strategy and programme development, citizen participation and the region’s involvement in the application process, organisation, budget, marketing and sponsoring, and new uses for cultural buildings.
