"The East" remains somehow different? East is not the same as East. The workshop will focus on social development in countries such as Poland and the Czech Republic after the Soviet era. A look at the neighbouring countries shows that socialism was not the same as socialism and (East) Germany is not the same as Western Europe. What today's generations know about the collapse of the Soviet Union comes from school books and stories, but the after-effects of these upheavals can still be felt in everyday life.
