A compilation of historical regional film material will be projected, which has been digitised since 2018 as part of SAVE in cooperation with the Saxon Film Association and the Saxon State and University Library Dresden (SLUB) and various programme partners. These films, created by semi-professional filmmakers and amateurs over decades, take an unbiased look at past everyday culture, traditions, filmmaking and the realities of life in this year's European Capital of Culture and the neighbouring Capital of Culture region. They therefore fit in perfectly with the European Capital of Culture motto "C the Unseen", as they make long-hidden images and stories from the region visible again.
Chemnitz residents and guests of the Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025 can look forward to the following highlights, among others:
- Historical footage of the "Annaberger Kät 1949", one of the oldest folk festivals in Germany.
- Moving images from the Mildenau area in the 1940s.
- Craft traditions such as lace-making and carving, which have characterised life in the Ore Mountains for decades.
- Insights into the "All-German Singers' Meeting" in Annaberg-Buchholz (1957).
- Documentation of celebrations such as "450 years of Marienberg" (1971).
- Fast-paced thrills at the motorbike race on the Sachsenring in the 1930s.
- Curious and charming scenes from the Fichtelberg suspension railway with animal passengers.
- Experimental film art from the GDR underground scene of the 1980s, from the holdings of the Chemnitz film workshop.
The projection is a cooperation between SAVE and Stadthalle Chemnitz/ C³ Chemnitzer Veranstaltungszentren GmbH, it was supported with funds from the "EUJA Initiative Projects for the European Capital of Culture Year!" funding programme As part of the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025.
