Silver lustre & miner's death

Power and wealth, ground-breaking technical innovations, but also the exploitation of people and nature cast light and shadow on the mining industry.

In the Ore Mountains in particular, mining characterised the culture, landscape and lifestyle of the people. We still see them today in parades, carved Christmas decorations and even on an altar: proud miners in smart uniforms.

In October 2024, the State Museum of Archaeology Chemnitz (smac) will open THE exhibition on mining.
