STRAW INTO GOLD

An upcycling project by Chemnitz Prison in partnership with the Kulturhaus Arthur

Photo: JVA Chemnitz

STRAW INTO GOLD is a textile upcycling club founded by women in and out of prison. In a two-part workshop series at Chemnitz Prison and in a garage at the Kulturhaus Arthur, they work on damaged, discarded garments, practising visible mending and paint- ing, printing or decorating them. Everyone is invited to join in. In a parallel exhibition at Kulturhaus Arthur, documentary photos taken by inmates of Chemnitz Prison provide an insight into the creative and artistic processes happening inside the prison walls.
