Songs of (In)Security
Musical theatre by Tanja Krone & team
The word "garage" comes from the French and means "to keep something safe". Chemnitz has a particularly high density of garages - does this indicate a particularly high need for security? And if so, what exactly is being secured behind the wooden gates and corrugated metal walls?
Director Tanja Krone knocked on the doors of garage owners, police headquarters, security companies, places of worship and the people with whom she made this city unsafe 30 years ago. She asked: How can we find inner security in uncertain times? The conversations turned into a music and theatre performance. The many voices became songs. The result was a negotiation about security in the old and new Chemnitz - the first security conference in the former East.

Songs of (In)Security was premiered at the #3000Garagen festival in Chemnitz in June 2025. Another performance took place on 27 November 2025 at Kulturbahnhof Chemnitz.
