The word »garage« comes from the French and means »securing something«. In the GDR, garages were not only a safe place to park your car, but also a personal safe space where you could think, say and do what you wanted – without fear of repression. Inspired by this, the director, musician and performer Tanja Krone has collected stories on the theme of security from garage owners in Chemnitz, touching on everything from perceived truths to hard facts. Their stories form the heart of her musical performance, in which she brings their words to the stage in the form of libretti in collaboration with composers and musicians. Hear their stories at the Garage Festival.
