"Averted portraits" from the Chemnitz 2025 cultural region

Photo: Kris Scholz

The photographer Corina Gertz is internationally recognised for her series of "averted portraits". In her work, she is particularly interested in the special features of traditional clothing in different regions and always photographs people from behind.

In May 2023, she spent a week travelling in the Ore Mountains to take photos of miners in miners' outfits. Corina Gertz set up her photo studio in Schwarzenberg, Oelsnitz, Schneeberg, Annaberg-Buchholz, Marienberg, Ehrenfriedersdorf and Freiberg and photographed people from various mining communities and mining brotherhoods.

The pictures will be exhibited in 2025 as part of the Capital of Culture programme in the cultural region and are part of the PURPLE PATH art and sculpture trail.
