Chemnitz 2025 presented itself at the Frankfurt Book Fair this week. The stand offered insights into the programme of the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025, which begins on 18 January 2025.

"C the Unseen" is the motto for Chemnitz 2025 - it is a warm invitation to discover the hitherto rather unseen Saxon city of Chemnitz and the 38 municipalities in the Capital of Culture region. Just how present Chemnitz is in literature was demonstrated at the fair with a selection of 50 books put together by the Chemnitz bookshop Lessing und Kompanie.

The selection included works written by Chemnitz authors, whose plots are set in the city or which relate to Chemnitz and the surrounding area in some way. Many of the books presented reflect the history and transformation of the city and include contemporary works as well as classics. Among them are books by the well-known Chemnitz writer Stefan Heym and the philosopher Karl Marx, whose name the city bore in GDR times (Karl-Marx-Stadt), although he never visited the city. But also bestsellers such as "Superbusen" by Paula Irmschler, which focuses on the life of the young generation in Chemnitz, or works by NSU-Watch, the Chemnitz artist Osmar Osten and the musician and columnist Nina Kummer.

In addition, Claudia Roth, the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media of the Federal Republic of Germany, visited the stand of the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025.
