At the beginning of September, the European Capital of Culture Tartu 2024 invited volunteer coordinators from all over Europe as part of an Erasmus+ project. Representatives from 11 cities in Germany, Finland, Italy, Lithuania, Latvia, Croatia, Poland, Romania, Slovenia and Serbia met in Estonia to discuss working with volunteers. Key topics were motivation, youth involvement, training and legacy.

The Chemnitz team, consisting of representatives from the volunteer programme, the youth programme and the Network for Cultural and Youth Work e.V., brought a lot of know-how back to Saxony and made important contacts. As a result, Chemnitz can already look forward to the active support of volunteers from many of the countries mentioned in the Capital of Culture year 2025.

The Project "Empowering youth through volunteerism" has been supported by the European commission through the Estonian Agency for Erasmus+ and the European Solidarity Corps"
