On 23 November 2023, the cultural train on the journey from Berlin to Wrocław was all about the past, present and future of the European Capitals of Culture. Under the title "Think Europe. Live Europe. - European Capitals of Culture - today and tomorrow", the event offered exciting discussions and a creative workshop.

Barbara Gessler (European Commission - Representation in Germany), Nancy Braun (European Capital of Culture Esch 2022), Dominika Kawalerowicz (Wrocławski Instytut Kultury), Brigitte Faber-Schmidt (MWFK Brandenburg) and Behlül Taskingül (Chemnitz 2025) discussed the sustainable impetus of the European Capital of Culture programme.

In the subsequent workshop, the participants developed "BidBooks" for a fictitious application of Lusatia as European Capital of Culture. The results: numerous innovative ideas on how the cultural diversity of the region could be strengthened and more closely networked with Europe. The presentations and discussions on board the culture train showed how transformation and culture can go hand in hand in Lusatia.

The culture train has been in existence since 2016 and was launched by Kulturprojekte Berlin. The occasion was Wrocław's nomination as European Capital of Culture in the same year. It is a symbol of the European idea and German-Polish friendship. A changing cultural programme is offered during the trip: There are exhibitions, readings, theatre plays, concerts and also workshops on the train.
