Volunteer Report: Kosmos Chemnitz 2024

Volunteers for Chemnitz 2025 publish reports on their experiences, assignments and adventures around the European Capital of Culture in the volunteer editorial office.

Gabriele is 61 years old and works as a customer advisor. She lives in Schloßchemnitz and enjoys doing her bit for her home town. This is why she can be found volunteering at various events, which she then writes about for the volunteer editorial team.

On Saturday, the new edition of the "Kosmos" festival took place, this time around the castle pond. The area stretched from the castle church to the Janssen factory and Konkordiapark.

My assignment began at 3 pm and ended at 7 pm.

Before I got to our little mobile, I first had to squeeze past and through a lot of visitors.

The response to this festival was overwhelming. There were around 70,000 visitors in total!

It was a special atmosphere. Whether young or old, alone or with family, there was something for everyone and everyone was in a good mood and enjoyed the beautiful weather, the great music or simply chilling out on the lawn.

There was a total of 150 programme items.

We had a nice little "mobile" which was equipped with promotional material for the Capital of Culture 2025. The people walking past had time and were happy to talk to us about their opinions and experiences of the Capital of Culture so far.

Many people don't realise how much is already happening and that a lot of helpers are still needed. We were able to arouse interest and clear up misunderstandings. I think I will see some of the people I spoke to again as a volunteer.

This assignment was also an interesting experience. I am very happy to have applied as a volunteer.
