Chemnitz, once an industrial stronghold and the richest city in Germany at the beginning of the 20th century, has had an eventful history. From its heyday as a leading city in the textile and automotive sectors to its reorientation after reunification, the city has undergone a remarkable transformation, while always retaining its inventive spirit and cultural identity. A visit reveals the many facets of the city: industrial culture, Eastern modernism, sports city, green oases, Art Nouveau, top-class museums and theatres, open spaces for subculture and culinary delights.
