The book must be read to the people - or rather the read word. Reading aloud mentors have been around for a while, and the nationwide reading aloud day is also very popular in Chemnitz. Thanks to volunteer readers, daycare centres, schools and multi-generational houses, as well as a museum railway station and, of course, the city's libraries, are popular places for onomatopoeic readings. The CLAXE project went even further and offered not just one day, but an entire series of readings during the Capital of Culture year. It found unusual locations for this: Readings were held at Chemnitz Zoo, in companies and cinemas, on cycle tours, bus trips and walking routes. The Friends of Chemnitz City Library and the Friends of Lichtenstein City Library jointly organised the project and pursued the idea of a reading axis between the two cities.
