Amateur teams from all over Europe for the first time play in a series of three tournaments in Trutnov in the Czech Republic, Świdnica in Poland, and Chemnitz to determine an overall international winner. Here, working together is important, although it also requires competing against each other. There are a few unwritten rules in curling: for example, that in the event of a dispute, you decide in your opponent’s favour. Or that the winner of a game invites the losing team for a drink – and that the losers should not choose the most expensive drink. Fairness is the prime directive. And that’s one of the reasons why curling is always a mixture of sport and socialising – and at the same time deeply integrative: the 2025 final tournament in Chemnitz will also include a German championship for hearing impaired curlers.
