The PURPLE PATH narrative ‘Everything came from the mountains’ emphasised the formative role of mountains in civilisation and culture. The Ore Mountains were seen as an example of how mountains shaped the identity and life of a region. A series of publicly offered mountain lectures was intended to promote dialogue on European values such as peace and solidarity, providing important impetus from philosophers, sociologists and theologians. The events were open to everyone free of charge. This exchange was intended to pave the way for a cosmopolitan, democratic Europe beyond the national context. The mountain symbolised the hope for foresight, overcoming borders and new perspectives.
