One of the most beautiful hall churches in Saxony characterises the image of the silver city of Freiberg. The external simplicity of the cathedral stands in stark contrast to the rich interior decoration. The sacred art from different eras attracts tens of thousands of art and organ music lovers to the cathedral every year.
The oldest surviving organ by Gottfried Silbermann can be heard in church services, concerts and special cathedral tours. You can also marvel at the restored electoral tomb with the Moritz Monument (1563) and the music-making angels (1592/94) with the original Renaissance instruments. The tulip pulpit (1505) and the miner's pulpit (1638) bear witness to the deep faith and high craftsmanship of their time. With the Golden Gate (1225) and the Triumphal Cross Group (1225), the cathedral contains two important works of sacred Romanesque art from the predecessor church, a Romanesque basilica.
