In preparation for the European Capital of Culture year, buildings were renovated and prepared for a new use and areas were remodelled and redesigned throughout the city. The bid book, which was used to win the title of "European Capital of Culture 2025" in 2020, sets out the strategy and the major themes.

Chemnitz may not (yet) have a hop-on hop-off bus, but it does have the CVAG! The "Chemnitz 2025 Tour FLUSS" takes you from the city centre to Altendorf and Rottluff - with buses on line 32, providing information on the "Hartmannfabrik", the flagship project "Stadt am Fluss" and the birthplace of Karl Schmidt-Rottluff along the way.
