Event information
Date & Time
On 21 June 2025, the ‘Stadium - An der Gellertstraße’ in Chemnitz will become a special venue for fire brigade sport. As part of the Capital of Culture Year 2025, the ‘Chemnitz Fire Cup’ will be held here - an exciting youth fire brigade competition in the discipline of group relay. This event will not only offer top sporting performances, but will also promote intercultural exchange between Chemnitz and its twin cities and partner fire brigades.
The Chemnitz Fire Cup is aimed at youth fire brigade teams from the Chemnitz twin towns and the partner fire brigades of the Chemnitz volunteer fire brigades. A special highlight will be the participation of youth teams from the European Partner Capital of Culture Nova Gorica - Gorizia, who have also been invited to this international competition. All in all, the city is expecting a high-calibre field of participants, which will not only promote the spirit of competition, but also camaraderie across national and cultural borders.
The group relay is a demanding discipline in which the youth fire brigade teams not only demonstrate their skills in various firefighting tasks, but also their teamwork and speed, as well as the precise execution of the various tasks that are essential for the later everyday operations of a fire brigade. It is an event that will captivate both the young firefighters and the spectators.
In addition to the exciting competitions, visitors can look forward to a varied programme on the forecourt of the stadium. Numerous attractions, such as a festival of authorities at which various blue-light organisations will be represented, exciting demonstrations of fire service technology, hands-on activities and information stands, will provide entertainment for the whole family. Visitors can find out about the work of the fire brigade and learn more about its important contribution to safety. There will also be a wide range of food and drink on offer, making the day an all-round successful experience.
In addition to the sporting competition, cultural exchange is at the centre of the Chemnitz Fire Cup. The participation of international teams from Chemnitz' twin cities and the cultural capital Nova Gorica - Gorizia shows how firefighting sport can act as a unifying element across national borders. The event offers an excellent opportunity to strengthen cultural and interpersonal ties between the cities and to familiarise young people with the value of international cooperation.
The Chemnitz Fire Cup will not only be an important sporting event, but also a symbolic part of the Capital of Culture 2025, which is characterised by diversity and exchange. For the Chemnitz Fire Department and its partner fire brigades, this competition is a sign of strong cooperation and commitment to the community and the next generation.
Spectators, families and firefighting enthusiasts can look forward to an exciting day full of action, team spirit and intercultural exchange. The Chemnitz Fire Cup is sure to be one of the highlights of the Capital of Culture 2025 and an unforgettable experience for everyone involved.
