Arvo Pärt's (*1935) Passio is one of the most important pieces of Passion music of the 20th century. The work can be heard in dialogue with Michael Morgner's Lenten cloth Ecce Homo in the Gothic Freiberg Cathedral.

Morgner's works of art invite meditative contemplation. His sheets are printed with lacquer colour, so that the human figure oscillates between appearing and disappearing. The paper absorbs creases, like the scars of life. When put together, a colour gradient from dark to light is created - like a resurrection.

Pärt's St John Passion is based on the Latin text of the Vulgate and dispenses with translations or additional texts. The music flows ritually for 75 minutes and encounters the floating work of art as a living counterpart.

The result is a multi-layered dialogue: between professionals and amateurs, sacred space and contemporary art, liturgical tradition and an international cultural audience.
