Edith Stein

A panorama of a life

Event information

Date & Time

t.b.a.

Location

Stadtkirche St.-Jakobi und Johanniskirche, Chemnitz

This project focuses on the figure of  EDITH STEIN, who reveals one of  the unseen sides of Chemnitz – her  favourite place to go on her fre- quent visits. Edith, a patron saint of Europe, was born in Breslau (now Wroclaw in Poland) in 1891. She was  an unusual woman: German, Jewish,  psychologist, teacher and doctor of  philosophy, and finally a Carmelite nun who took the name Teresia Benedicta a Cruce and was murdered  in Auschwitz in 1942. The project includes an exhibition about her life,  an art and dance workshop and  a concert of Jewish music in a light- hearted and joyful atmosphere.
