Ostheim, Liebenthal, New York, Blumenfeld, Bunge, Marienthal - did you think these places were in the Donbas? Or that the now heavily contested region was once populated by 10,000 Belgians and was referred to as the "10th province of Belgium"? The film is a multi-layered exploration of the early history of industrialisation in eastern Ukraine by Belgian, French, German, Welsh and American entrepreneurs. At the same time, it deconstructs Soviet and Russian myths about the Donbas as a product of the Stalin era.

Afterwards, Ariane Afsari will talk to the director, who will join us from Ukraine.
