Katja Lang was born in 1968 in Karl-Marx-Stadt; after studying architecture at the TU Dresden, she studied painting/graphic arts at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts and was a master student of Elke Hopfe. Today, she lives and works in Berlin.

Regarding her work for St. Marien in Stollberg, she writes: A landscape of the Ore Mountains establishes the connection to Stollberg in the Ore Mountains. The traveler is meant as a reference to the Saxon pilgrimage route, and the fog symbolizes the unknown, the search for which drives us forward on the path of life. The traveler goes through an uncomfortable time in the sleet, yet he hopes for an improvement in his circumstances at the end of the journey. This hope is his driving force.
