"The boiler suit is a changeable item of clothing, it can be practical workwear or an unusual designer piece. In "Metamorphosis of Workwear", it becomes an artistic projection surface for industrial culture.

18 designers from six European cities are exploring the industrial past, present and future of Chemnitz, Gabrovo, Łódź, Manchester, Mulhouse and Tampere. Together with artistic director Wiete Sommer, the artists translate the information into the visual design of the garment.

Three Chemnitz artists will be looking over their shoulders, and guests are invited to exchange ideas about workwear and working life in the past and today. The discussions will be incorporated into the "Metamorphosis of Workwear" exhibition. There will also be a creative programme for children.

Tales of Transformation

In its major exhibition ‘Tales of Transformation’, the Industriemuseum Chemnitz compares the development of former industrial hotspots: Chemnitz, Gabrovo, Łódź, Manchester, Mulhouse and Tampere. The exhibition sheds light on the impulses for the future coming from these cities and what they can learn from each other: rapid growth and splendid wealth paired with precarious living conditions - later a radical collapse and the necessary reinvention. The exhibition is part of the main programme of the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025.
