Candlemas marks the end of the Christmas season. For good. Just like in the Erzgebirge, the Open Space will be clocking off from 2 p.m. on 2 February 2025: one more mulled wine, homemade. All afternoon, while stocks last.

Winter is dying or picking up speed once again. The days are getting longer. We look to the future. Early spring is celebrated with golden suns - crèpes - just like in France, prepared and served by Birgit Leibner and Julie Diderotto from Bürgerhaus City e. V. Delicious jams and marmalades have already been donated. There will also be homemade onion soup and vegan pumpkin soup from the Friends of Historic Crafts, prepared by the chairman of the association, who is an esteemed chef. All afternoon until the supplies are exhausted.

Approx. 2.15 p.m.: The three workshops will also come from the creative forges of the Bürgerhaus and the Friends of Crafts, in which people will work in different ways with wax, paint, foil and other materials, so that they can also take home a bright light.

  • Approx. 2.30 pm: A Pop_Up_Photo exhibition, Lichtblicke, organised by an international collective of artists who appear in public under the pseudonym Eric Bruecke, has been pre-announced.
  • Approx. 3.15 pm: The well-known Chemnitz author Hans Brinkmann reads from his latest book, Inhalte, published by Eichnespinner Verlag, his in-house publisher.
  • Approx. 4.00 pm: Once again, the traditional songs will be sung by the Erzgebirgsbläsern, the horn quartet of the Mozart Society under the direction of Mathis Stendike.
  • Approx. 5.00 p.m.: In addition to music, food and drink, the pre-spring_rush also includes dancing. The Folkverein Chemnitz e.V. will be there to show you the steps: twirling and whooping in the peace dance.
  • The event ends at 6.00 p.m. with a walk led by night watchman Jan Weiße to the town hall tower, where the carillon, played by Sebastian Liebold, will conclude the event at 6.30 p.m. .

The concept of a European transcultural interpretation of the Candlemas festival was developed from the Ent_Rüstet formation. in 2024, there was a trial run in the Open Space. The endeavour is to inscribe the early_spring_rush into the collective memory of Chemnitz.

This year's event is a micro-project of Chemnitz Capital of Culture ECoC 2025.
