Last year marked the 75th anniversary of the Basic Law of the Federal Republic of Germany. The values enshrined in it form the basis of the German state and are considered to be formative for the re-democratisation of the country after the Second World War, a declared goal of its authors. Elements such as Article 1 on the protection of human dignity are often quoted and were a model for other constitutions. At the same time, it makes sense to scrutinise this legal basis time and again, including from an artistic perspective. The anthology The Basic Law - A Literary Commentary does just that: in the form of sparkling essays and personal stories, writers, journalists and lawyers re-categorise individual articles for our times. The members of the TheaterJugendClub take this as a starting point to enter into a dialogue with the Basic Law themselves. As part of a staged reading, they invite you to surprising, entertaining and also thought-provoking reflections.
