In the former stables of Augustusburg Castle, the topic of carriages is brought to life interactively over an area of 1,100 m².
Authentically designed scenarios provide an insight into the areas of life from the 18th to 20th centuries in which carriages played a role. These include travelling, transporting goods, keeping horses and everyday life in the middle classes. The production and technology of carriages also covers a broad spectrum, which is shown by means of an exploded model and the wainwright and blacksmith's workshop. Of course, the magnificent carriages of the Saxon court are also on display.
Visitors can slip into the role of a merchant, coachman, nobleman or lady-in-waiting and answer role-related questions at various stations during their tour.
If you want to take the reins yourself, you can "feel" the driving skills involved in the profession of coachman in the carriage simulator.
Curious audio travelogues, stamp stations or a mini carriage race make the subject tangible in a playful way, as does the opportunity to take a seat in the wooden and luxury class or to harness carriage horses to a model.
