The micro-project "Art connects generations" is part of the commitment to Chemnitz as Capital of Culture 2025. BIP Chemnitz gGmbH and P3N MARKETING GMBH have launched a unique project that brings generations together and uses art to build a bridge between young and old in Chemnitz.

What is behind the project?

The idea is simple, creative and profound at the same time: In two joint campaigns, kindergarten children, vocational school students from nursing and social professions and senior citizens have together immortalised their favourite places in Chemnitz on canvases. Under the guidance of lecturers from BIP Chemnitz gGmbH, 15 impressive works of art were created, showing the Capital of Culture from different perspectives.

It was not just about the painting itself, but also about the creative exchange between the generations. Children, schoolchildren and senior citizens sat together, talked about their views of Chemnitz and incorporated their very own impressions. Places such as the one-energy chimney ("Esse"), the Karl Marx Monument ("Nischel") or the Klaffenbach moated castle were artistically depicted in a variety of ways and reflect the diversity of the city.

Experience Chemnitz as a cultural capital

Our project centres on experiencing and helping to shape the Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025. What does it mean to be part of a Capital of Culture? For us, the answer quickly became clear: it is the people who make Chemnitz a Capital of Culture! Through art and creative design, we want to offer a space for discussion and creation in which the exchange between generations is promoted and new cultural impulses are generated.

Vernissage at the BIP Pflegecup

The pictures will be presented to the public for the first time at the 2nd BIP Pflegecup on 26 October 2024 (09:30, Fürstenstraße 87, 09130 Chemnitz) in the foyer of the sports hall. The BIP Care Cup is a charity football tournament organised by BIP Chemnitz gGmbH and offers the perfect opportunity to experience the works of art in a sporting setting. This year, the proceeds, including entry fees and donations, will go to the Chemnitz associations "Elternverein krebskranker Kinder e.V." and "Elternverein Chemnitzer Frühstarter".

The event will be hosted by Daniel Pfaff, the Niners' hall announcer. The Mayor of Chemnitz, Sven Schulze, will take part in the award ceremony and trophy presentation at the end of the tournament.

Teams for the 2nd BIP Pflegecup will be provided by Heim gGmbh, KATHARINENHOF AM ALBERTPARK, Stadtmission Chemnitz e.V., Volkssolidarität Chemnitz, Stiftung Münch, Alloheim Senioren-Residenz "Am Eichberg" and many other organisations from the care and social sector in our region.
