When artistic impulses and spontaneity encountered a rational and tightly planned research environment, new creative energy emerged. Artists experimented with fungal networks and filigree metal structures from 3D printers and folded DNA using origami techniques.

Exhibitions by Klub Solitaer, Kreatives Chemnitz and the Fraunhofer ENAS Institute in Chemnitz showcased the collaborative work of contemporary artists, research institutes and medium-sized companies.

Experts and interested parties came together at the FUNKEN Space – experimental, playful and guaranteed never boring. Whether FUNKEN Nights, Science Meets Art, the Funken und Visionen conference, the Kollektive Campus art event with Peter Piek, his summer concert or the FUNKEN Echoes: installations, performances and interactive exhibits presented the results and visions from past projects and residencies and showcased groundbreaking artistic and scientific visions for Chemnitz.
