Iván Fischer fulfilled a dream when he founded the Budapest Festival Orchestra in 1983 with the pianist and conductor Zoltán Kocsis, who died in 2016. It has been ranked among the ten best orchestras in the world for many years. The orchestra’s recordings have twice won the highly prestigious Gramophone prize, which is awarded annually by the British classical music magazine Gramophone, and it has been nominated for a Grammy. In 2022, Gramophone readers named the Budapest Festival Orchestra their Orchestra of the Year. Iván Fischer has also served as the music director of the European Union Youth Orchestra (EUYO) since August 2024. In Chemnitz, the orchestra will perform a programme consisting of Mendelssohn: Violin Concerto (soloist: Renaud Capucon) and Richard Strauss: Joseph's Legend
