Garrison town, state garden show areas, Mühlbachtal landscape garden, "Die Schlange" bridge, "ZeitWerkStadt" adventure museum, Barkas, Framo, TimeCube, Harrasfelsen, medieval mountain town of Bleiberg, Sachsenburg Castle

The garrison town of Frankenberg/Sa. is located in the immediate vicinity of Chemnitz in the district of Mittelsachsen. The first mention of the originally Franconian settlement dates back to 1206, although it was probably founded more than 830 years ago. Today, around 14,000 people live here, who can enjoy spacious playgrounds, parks and sports facilities. Much of this, such as the Mühlbachtal landscape garden and the Zschopauaue nature experience area with the long bridge "Die Schlange", is thanks to the 2019 Sächsische Landesgartenschau, which also gave rise to today's ZeitWerkStadt adventure museum on the history of the city and industry. Among other things, it features a collection of historic small commercial vehicles such as Framo and Barkas, as well as the fascinating TimeCube made up of 116 monitors - a walk-in film experience.
