The mission statement of Chemnitz 2025 gGmbH

The values of the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025 have been summarised in a mission statement. These are guiding principles for internal collaboration and for cooperation with external partners. This is what Chemnitz 2025 stands for.

Our goal

New impulses for urban and regional development

Together with a wide range of stakeholders, we want to create an extraordinary programme for 2025, the year in which Chemnitz and 38 municipalities will hold the title of European Capital of Culture, that will provide new impetus for art and culture, participation and ideas for the future. We invite everyone to discover the hidden sides of the city and region.

Our vision

European Workshop for Culture and Democracy

We envision the Chemnitz of the future as a lively and cosmopolitan place in the heart of Europe. Creative people should be able to realise their diversity here and feel part of a European community. Our projects should arouse the interest of local people and visitors from all over the world.

Our values

Diversity. Co-operation. Respect. Tolerance. Openness. Internationality.

We believe that community generates trust and joy, and that diversity promotes creativity and innovation. That is why cooperation plays a central role. Every person is equally valuable and important. We do not accept discrimination based on racist and anti-Semitic attributions, origin, religion, identity and language, disability, illness, age and status. We act independently of political parties. Our work is based on tolerance and openness, respect and empathy. We create a protected space for critical diversity of opinion and a constructive culture of debate. We represent democratic values and see ourselves first and foremost as Europeans. We are diverse and come from different places in Europe and have a wide range of interests and an international outlook.
