Freiberg Cathedral is home to Hans Witten’s tulip pulpit, one of the late Gothic sculptor’s most beautiful works. Richard Long (* 1945), a land artist, revolutionised sculpture with his ancient-looking stone circles. His PETRIFIED WOOD CIRCLE, created in 2000, is made from fossilised red sequoia and light-coloured cedar wood that is millions of years old. Installed under the Gothic, white-green arches of the cloister, the work invites visitors to take in their surroundings and meditate.
