Gottfried Silbermann (* 1683 – † 1753) was a craftsman of his time. Trained in Alsace, he returned to his native Saxony, where he designed and built organs and keyboard instruments in his Freiberg workshop. The quality of his work remains unrivalled to this day. His organs create a sense of identity, including in churches in the Capital of Culture region, and they attract people from all over the world. Again in 2025, the Gottfried-Silbermann-Gesellschaft will share old and new music and pass on historical craftsmanship with a wide range of programmes. With many hundreds of children from the European organ cities project Here We Are participating, the Silber- mann Days celebrate these historical instruments’ undiminished allure with concerts that dialogue with the artworks on the PURPLE PATH, the classical music festival Silbermann. A Family in Europe., and the Silbermann SoundWalk Young Edition.
