For 30 years, the SCHLiNGEL INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL has shaped Chemnitz's film landscape like no other institution. Almost 200 short and feature-length films and animated films have been screened on the city's cinema screens. In six competitions, the best films from numerous countries were awarded 18 prizes. In 2025, the European Children's Jury met for the 23rd time, with children from around 10 countries awarding the only European Children's Film Prize on the continent, sponsored by the SMWKT. Discussions with filmmakers as well as seminars and panel discussions for trade visitors took place. Media education workshops for school classes and kindergartens were just as popular as the rendezvous with international cinema celebrities. Whether from Turkmenistan or South Korea, the organisers always discovered something new for the local audience. The festival was also an interface for German children's films in the international festival market.
