Schocken von Schocken - How not to privatise air?

A play about the moral legacy of department store owner Salman Schocken

P: Dirk Hanus

The well-being of his employees was very importand to Salman Schocken. He not only paid them well, but also looked after them in every conceivable way. The staff of the Schocken department stores, which were scattered far and wide across the region, were able to spend their annual holiday in a resort he had built in the countryside. The costs for the trip were taken care of by the company. In the stores themselves, Schocken did not offer fast fashion, but made long-lasting, quality goods affordable for everyone. He was by no means a liberal, but rather a conservative humanist. This play addresses ideas at the intersection of social and capitalist action. It is also an artistic exploration of the concept of a guaranteed basic income. Using imagination and the power of theatre, the play searches for a better future for all of us. Theatre companies in Poland and Germany are working on this production together across borders.
