Street Chess International

Black and white thinking

I: Ulrike Schell (Bikini Kommando)

Chess is played all over the world. The appeal doesn’t lie just in the game itself: in recent years, there has been a real hype around watching chess players weigh up their moves and then make them. The game, which is over a thousand years old, has become the latest in-vogue amusement. On a summer’s day in August, the Rosenhof in Chemnitz will be transformed into a huge street chess area, with guests from all over Europe mingling with locals. They will play together, discuss moves and get to know each other. Children, recreational players and tournament players are all very welcome. If you’re new to the black-and-white battlefield, this will be a great opportunity to learn the basics of chess at first-hand.
